Vice Adm Shekhar Sinha is a former Chief of Integrated Defence Staff. He was a member of the Defence Acquisition Council between 2010 to 2012. Adm. Sinha is a Naval aviator of fighter stream and has flown over 2700 hours. Adm. Sinha retired in 2014 as Commander in Chief of the operationally active Western Naval Command based at Mumbai, with additional responsibility of C-in-C Coastal Security, Western Seaboard. He holds an MSc and MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras.
Admiral Shekhar Sinha was responsible for maritime security of Sea Lanes of Communication in Arabian Sea and both, Gulf of Aden and Persian Gulf. Prior to assuming this assignment he was Chief of Integrated Defense Staff to the Chiefs of Staff committee. He has been awarded the Param Vishisht and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for exceptional service to the Navy. He has also been conferred with two Gallantry awards.
Admiral Sinha has Vast Experience of Representing the Govt in International Fora in Bilateral Dialogues.
